Believing in Yourself
“Believing in yourself is far more important than believing in us. It is even more important than believing in that which you would call ‘God.’ It is so important for leading a life where you can exist harmoniously and where you can create that which you desire. Believing in oneself is more important than believing in the concepts that we teach because, ultimately, you are the one who will be applying those concepts. And if you do not believe in yourself then do not believe that the concepts will work. They may work for others, but you will believe that they will not work for you. So we want to stress the importance of your belief in yourself.
You do believe that you exist. You do understand that you are conscious. So how do you get to a place where you believe that you are capable, that you have the ability to live the life that you want to live, to do what you want to do, to explore your world with confidence? The way to believing in yourself is to allow yourself to do so. The only thing that ever stops you from believing in yourself is a thought. If you were never to consider the idea that you were somehow not valuable or that you were in some way incapable of doing something, then you never would doubt that you could have the life that you wanted.
So this is really about clearing away those feelings that you have, that you have been holding onto for a very long time. And the way to do that is first to notice when you are doing it. Notice yourself in a moment of not believing in yourself. Notice how you feel when you are in that place. Then notice that you are the one who is noticing, and when you do that, you can fully believe that you are capable. Because if you are capable to noticing yourself doing something to doubt your abilities, then you must be able to believe in yourself as well.
So simply smile in those moments when you notice yourself having a thought, experiencing doubt, and send those feelings and those thoughts on their way. Be kind and gentle with them, but think of them as like toys that you used to play with when you were much, much younger but that you have no interest in now, because that’s truly all they were. They were something that you outgrew and that you no longer need and that no longer serve you as the person, as the being, that you are today. So the simple act of letting go. That is how you can come to believe in yourself, and we support you in that wholeheartedly.”
